The Day I Almost Missed the Message

Sometimes life doesn’t shout.

It whispers.

This morning, I reached into my closet for a small notebook.

There was nothing remarkable about it. I simply wanted somewhere to collect a few thoughts before they slipped away. Ideas have a way of appearing unexpectedly, and if we’re not careful, they quietly disappear just as quickly.

I took a picture of the notebook to send to a friend.

Then I looked at the cover.

Really looked.

It made me stop.

How many things have we walked past a hundred times without ever truly seeing them?

A favorite photograph.

An old coffee mug.

A familiar street.

A tree we’ve driven by for years.

A person we think we already know.

We often assume that because something is familiar, we’ve seen all there is to see.

Maybe we haven’t.

Perhaps life isn’t hiding its treasures from us at all.

Perhaps we’re simply moving too quickly to notice them.

I’ve begun to believe that wonder doesn’t always arrive in dramatic moments.

Sometimes it waits patiently in ordinary places, until we’re finally ready to recognize it.

The older I get, the more I realize that awareness is a remarkable gift.

Not because it changes the world.

Because it changes us.

When we slow down enough to notice, familiar things begin to reveal themselves in unexpected ways.

A conversation becomes a memory.

A meal becomes a family story.

An airport becomes a collection of human journeys.

Even an old notebook can become a gentle reminder that inspiration has a habit of arriving when we’re paying attention.

Maybe that’s the invitation today.

Pause for just a moment.

Look again.

You may discover that something extraordinary has been quietly waiting in an ordinary place all along.
